How to connect Claude (Anthropic)

  1. Go to platform.claude.com. (If you have an older link to console.anthropic.com it now sends you to the same place.)

  2. No account? Choose "Sign up" and register with your email. You will need to add a payment method -- Claude is pay-as-you-go and $5-10 of credit is plenty to start.

  3. In the left-hand menu choose "API Keys".

  4. Press "Create Key", give it a name so you recognise it later -- "Julia" works -- and confirm.

  5. Copy the key straight away. It is only shown once.

  6. Paste it into the box below and press "Test connection".

If something goes wrong

The key is shown ONCE. If you closed the page without copying it, delete that key and make a new one -- you cannot look the old one up.

If it says the key is wrong: copy it again and check there is no space at the start or end. A key pasted from an email often picks one up.

If it says billing or quota: add a payment method on the provider's own site. Julia cannot add credit on your behalf.
